About the Film

Boston, now. In a bar on a rainy night, the art critic Thurber finally tells a friend why he stopped going underground — and how he came to know Richard Upton Pickman, the most gifted painter in New England and the one no gallery would show.

Pickman's canvases are too vivid to have been imagined. He keeps a studio in the oldest part of Salem, in a house with a well in the cellar, and one night he invites Thurber down to see the work no one else has seen.

An adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft's 1927 story, moved to the present day.
